Creating Scents
By creating candles I celebrate the power and beauty of our
sense of smell and my love for colour.
Our smell can evoke emotions and memories even more profoundly than our sense of vision. This is because of a very direct route connecting sensory receptors in our nose and the amygdala (the key part of your emotional brain).
For me, composing my candle blends is a
mindful process of art and exploration.
When mixing different scents together I observe...
What does this smell remind me of? What does it make me feel like? What does it bring up in me? I look for blends that create some kind of a synergy.
A synergy that will spark up a picture, a feeling, a "sense of". Once I come up with the name and the scent blend I then experiment with the colours to add a finishing touch to the vision of each candle.
Of course, this will be quite individual. What for me may smell like joy, for you may not. But this is another fascinating side of our senses. We can interpret things completely differently based on our experiences and preferences.
